Hello Aspiring Affiliate Marketers:
This letter is written to you, by me, Riley West. It's NOT an automatic autoresponder. It's just me.
First, thank you for joining my email list. That IS an automailer. I hope you'll find it useful.
I'm assuming that you are interested in making money in direct sales via the internet. Am I right?
If so, you've probably seen a TON of pitches trying to convince you that THEIR way was YOUR way.
It's quite an introduction into something that can be a good way to help someone else while doing yourself a good deed, too. A lot of it sounds like a carnival midway. Some of it sounds like scams, and it is.
You see, a certain prospect responds to that pitch very well.
Still, I haven't met anybody yet who didn't like the idea of some extra money or even a whole new way of making money.
If your experience while looking into online marketing is anything like mine, I understand that it's not all positive.
Keep your guard up, it'll serve you well.
I "discovered" Internet Marketing in 2008 and I spent the whole year NOT trying to make money, but instead, trying to find out HOW to make money and, at first, I was excited and totally confused.
Well, now most of the confusion is over and I now understand how things are done online. And I even earn some money, and that's growing. You can do this, too.
I want to give you a "head's-up" on something. The Internet Marketing landscape is almost 100% dominated by a couple hundred people who are VERY sharp marketers. Most of them are honest. Some aren't. But they are all VERY sharp!
For the first few months I think you ought to stay away from them.
But if you are looking to get started in this online money making endeavor let me point out some of the good things about it and some of the "traps" that snag almost everyone at first.
The Good Things:
You can keep this simple.
You can make money by offering the right thing to the right people and simply letting a percentage of them buy something they want.
You CAN make money online. It's like any other sales gig. You learn the ropes. You land a few deals. You get a better tie. You polish your shoes. You keep doing it until you are pretty good at it.
THAT'S when the magic happens!
The magic? Money appears in your account and you didn't know about it until you checked or received an email notification.
It takes real work and the first person that tells you otherwise...well...run!
The Bad Things:
A big one is information overload.
You can be "sold" something that does you no good. It happens a LOT.
You can get stuck doing things that don't contribute to your online marketing progress.
Your head will be spinning and you'll be buying ebooks that might teach you something and you'll be getting a little overwhelmed and this might go on for quite a while, when, all of a sudden, a year has gone past and you haven't earned a dime.
It happens to many. It happened to me. If only I had found out what I now know, I would have been lucky enough to get a good start.
A good start is best begun by actually DOING something.
I recommend you begin (or re-commence) by starting up a website. Really.

They call them "lenses." They are really a website. They are FREE!
So you can get one, screw it up, fix it, and learn a LOT. Here's one I did on Home Made Solar Panels. (I know very little about solar panels) You don't have to be an expert on something to sell it...but it wouldn't hurt, either! Here's another I did on an online marketing plan called One Week Marketing.
Maybe you don't want to build a Squidoo site, ok... but it can be about anything you want it to contain.
Think of it as a combination scrapbook, diary, weblog, and to-do list. You can put anything on it you want. Put your picture on it and claim that you are an interesting person! Just keep it simple.
You COULD just have a website all about you and your dog. Or...anything...really.
But you will learn so much good stuff about a web site by doing this that it will surprise and please you.
A little later you'll be in a good position to attempt something a little more sophisticated...like making money.
I have to tell you something so simple you may know it already.
Only 2 things have to come together for you to make money online!
TWO THINGS!
A. A Product...and....
B. A buyer that wants it!
Yes! Here's the formula...Offer + Traffic = Sales.
And...how is this done? Through the wonder of Affiliate Marketing. You can be an affiliate marketer. Anyone can be. You sell something you get a commission...often BIG!
You don't have to produce a product or define a market. All you have to do is find a good product in a hot market and people will actually THANK you for providing it to them!
Right there is where a lot of people get "stuck." At least they think they are stuck and therefore are stuck.
That happens because the population in general wants a "quick fix."
Would you want to go to a dentist or doctor that got their schooling "fast and quick"?
If you want to market online by offering things that people want and would buy anyway, you need to sit still for a little while. And think.
*Why would anybody buy anything from me online?
For the same reasons that they'd buy something from someone else online!
They need it, or think they need it, and you offered it to them in a manner they respond to.
How do I find these people?
Aha! The million dollar question.
Here's where online marketing shines.
You find people who want to buy a certain something by identifying the keywords they'd be likely to type in to a search engine when looking for what they want.
Then you get your offer page to come up in front of the rest of the pack and in front of your potential customer that indicated his/her interest by simply typing in a search query. (keyword)*
* please read that little bit again if you aren't sure you got it. I'm not the best explainer. Is that a word?
How do I find those keywords?
That's actually easy. Once you've been shown how.
How do I get MY offer page to come up for those keywords?
That takes some real work and the guys you see making a ton of money in this business are REALLY good at it.
Most of them NEVER talk about it. But I've been around. Here is what I say about that.
Listen to what they say. WATCH what they do. Some of them are a heck of a lot better at telling you something than they are at showing you something.
Want to see what I'm doing? You could do it too. But let me say this before you run off to there.
There are MARKETS (defined by keywords) that are EASY and Markets that are HARD.
If you are a beginner, or a stalled intermediate, you want the EASY markets. Maybe everybody does.
So, to recap, you CAN make money online.
If you don't know how, you NEED someone to show you.
Brace yourself. I am not the best guy to learn from. I'm just starting to get it!
The people I learned from are VERY Good, however, and, although I have learned from many, I have three favorites that I highly recommend.
